An internationally-known performer and teacher, Yuko Hayashi has concertized widely in the USA and Europe as well as in Japan. Through extensive concert tours in Europe, she has researched an authentic approach to historical repertoire of many styles and periods on original instruments.

In 1995, in recognition of her distinguished and outstanding contributions to musical culture, she was chosen as a winner of the Arion Award by the Cambridge Society for Early Music. Ms. Hayashi was invited to join the faculty of New England Conservatory in 1960, and was head of the organ department for thirty years, from 1971 until she retired in 2001.

She continues an active teaching schedule as well as concert performances. She has served as the Music Director of Old West Church since 1974, and is the Executive/Artistic Director of the Old West Organ Society, which presents concerts and seminars encompassing a balanced spectrum of styles by major American and international artists on Old West’s Fisk organ. She recently supervised both the fund-raising and the restoration work for our Fisk organ, now valued at over one million dollars, but, artistically, priceless.

Ms. Hayashi has recorded on King’s Records, CBS Sony, and her CD, entitled Bach at Old West, is available on the Classical Masters label.
